The New Coach Connection Common Courtesies
To make the New Coach Connection discussion list valuable for everyone, here are some common courtesies that I ask you to review when using the list. I don't do well with rules and felt this would be the best way to ensure some sort of general guidelines. This list may be sent to you OFF-LINE by our moderators, should we find a friendly reminder is required. It can also be found as a file in our resource section.
The Only "Rule"
The only rule we have is to keep it safe for all members. That means respecting posts even if you don't agree. You may disagree with the written material, not with the person. You will be removed from the NCC group immediately for this violation.
Common Courtesies
The group list is specifically intended for coaches who have questions, comments, and = resources for other coaches. All discussions appropriate to coaching in any way are permitted.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Posts that are sent to this list are FOR THIS LIST ONLY! It is not okay to forward messages to another site or person who does not belong to the NCC list UNLESS you have the permission of the original person who posted the message.
1. Different options for different days -- We have days where "Anything Goes." You may decide to send off topic, off coaching, just off comments, and you are welcome to post these on the weekends (Saturday and Sundays)
While there are specific THEMES for each day, ANY question or comment (other than Friday's theme) may be posted on ANY day of the week.
On M.A.D MONDAYS, "Make A Difference" Monday is where we look at life balance and ways to create checks and balances as a coach, as a family person, as a career person, and in all of the roles we play.
On TUESDAY we have a day where we like to offer space for newcomers and people who may have been around a while but rarely (or never) post, i.e. lurkers or taters) to ask any questions they have. This is also supported by an offline policy. If for any reason you are not comfortable posting to the group and would like something posted anonymously, you can send an e-mail to Marion Franklin (marion@lifecoachinggroup.com) who will be happy to post on your behalf. You can then read all of the replies without having to identify yourself.
Reach Out WEDNESDAY -- On Wednesdays, we focus more on networking and marketing with questions and commentary relating to building a business, meeting new people, getting clients, and reaching out in general.
On TECHIE THURSDAYS questions and issues that come up around technology of any kind will get answered and/or researched. Sometimes there are simple questions that many people can answer and sometimes they are quite challenging and cutting edge and we hope for an expert' to help us out.
On FRIDAY O N L Y, we begin the day as our FREE FOR ALL day. This is the day to shamelessly promote any events, products, or programs that you would like other coaches to be aware of. It DOES NOT matter if the program is fee or free. It's ONLY appropriate to post it on a Friday US/ET to Sunday US/ET, and we encourage you to do so. We also ask that on this day you share any personal reflection pieces: Poetry, quotes, etc. ANYTHING GOES ON FRIDAYS! (Within reasonable respect, of course)
Everyone is addressed -- We will never let a question come through to the NCC list without a response (on or off line).
2. Deleting Previous Message -- When replying to a post, take the time to delete the previous message if it is appended to your reply. If you do not do this, people receiving the digest version of this list must scroll through each one of these appended messages to see the next new post. It is also suggested that if you are replying, leave only the portion(s) of the message that is appropriate so that people have a reference point. (They don't necessarily need the entire message.)
3. Message Subject -- When posting a reply to a message, please change the subject if it no longer applies to the content of what you are posting. This helps others determine if they wish to read your message or to find it later. (For some people, they have their messages automatically thread so that they stay together by subject.)
4. Personal Replies -- When someone requests a personal reply, please respond privately instead of through the list. (NOTE: The default reply is to the whole list and you need to copy the address of the individual to address them offline.) If you are requesting a personal reply, type your email address in the body of your message to make it easy for those who respond. If you wish to reply to someone who has not done this and their address is not visible, with many email programs you can find the sender's address by right clicking on the message and choosing "Properties." You can also find it by visiting the list's website and viewing the message there. (The site address is http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/newcoachconnection)
5. One-Liners -- Refrain from sending one-line responses like "congratulations," "thanks for your help," and "go for it" to the list. These messages are more appropriately sent as personal replies.
6. Advertising -- Advertising programs, products, and services, even if they are free, should be placed on the calendar, as an event. (THESE ARE ALSO WELCOME ON FRIDAYS!) To ensure that everyone sees your advertisement, a weekly posting is sent out with all events. If they are not event items and must be sold as product, please send to the NCC Moderators list and we will determine if it's appropriate to distribute. The only exception is occasional postings from the moderators.
